Join us for the launch of Patrick Lowry’s exhibition Surveillance on Thursday 21st January, 3-7pm.

At the talk and discussion between 3-5pm we will be joined by Chris Woods, author of Sudden Justice: America’s Secret Drone Wars, and Theo Price of COBRA Res, an artist group that mirrors meetings of the British Government’s emergency response committee, COBRA, as it responds to perceived national or regional crises. From 5-7pm we will break out for a viewing of the Predator drone in the gallery and informal discussion, and at 6pm a reading of transcripts by Plymouth-based performance artist, Clare Thornton.

Investigative journalist Chris Woods is ‘Britain’s leading historian of armed drones‘, according to Sir Max Hastings. A specialist in conflict issues, Woods worked for the BBC’s Newsnight and Panorama as a senior producer for many years. He also set up and ran the Bureau of Investigative Journalism’s award-winning Drones Team His book Sudden Justice: America’s Secret Drone Wars charts the history of armed drone use in Iraq and elsewhere since 9/11. He now runs the Airwars project, monitoring international airstrikes against Islamic State.

Theodore Price is an artist, writer and curator. His current project COBRA RES invites artists, writers and academics to respond each time the British government’s emergency response Committee COBRA convenes. Hi practice is interested in investigating the relationship between aesthetics and emergency politics.  Recent books include The Right to be Forgotten – digital democracy and the inclusive exclusion 2012 Longhouse, and COBRA 1.9 Flash Fiction 2015 (ed) a collection of twenty six newly written experimental ‘flash fiction’ texts from artists and writers responding to the refugee crisis. Price is Visiting Lecturer in Photography, Culture and Language at the University of Roehampton and a PhD candidate in Art History at the University of Essex.

Clare Thornton is an interdisciplinary artist and educator working with performance, sculpture, installation & print. In 2007 she co-founded The Performance Re-enactment Society for investigating the problems and potential of performance and its documents, with projects shown at Arnolfini, Spike Island, FlatTime House, South London Gallery and Gagosian Gallery NY. Thornton has shown her work extensively (both as solo projects and collaborations) in UK, Scandinavia, Latvia, Turkey, Australia, USA.
